South Africa? Who knew??

South Africa is now alongside Belgium, the Netherlands, Spain and Canada in allowing gay marriages. Read the story here.

You know, coming from Reuters, one might make a comment here about getting the straight scoop. . . .

It makes sense to me. The post-apartheid Constitution was very careful to not to discriminate against anyone, so all civil institutions that accord rights and privileges are available to everyone. In reality, however, same-sex marriage doesn't actually occur all that often.

My own sense is that the equal protection clause (section 1) of amendment 14 of the United States Constitution willl eventually force the that country to follow suit.
