Excommunicated Baptists? For WHAT??

Micah told me about this story early this morning: an independent Baptist church who has "excommunicated" (I know the word does not apply, but it's their usage) members for being Democrat. No, I'm not making this up; you can also read about it here.

The comments that occur to me to make, keep coming out salted with my steel mill vocabulary. So let's just say I'm simply appalled, and leave it at that.

Shameful. Just shameful.

They were excommunicated because they did not hold the values of the church they professed to share. Those values (and Baptist churches get to decide on their values individually, since they are congregational) include a staunch support of life.

If you were pastor of a church that had no head other than yourself (and Baptists don't have bishops) and 9 of your members said that it was all right support a party who says it is okay to suck out the brains of gay people since they could sometimes be a nuisance and since they weren't really human, would you wish to remain identified with them?

The Democratic party supports abortion. Some of us think that abortion is morally wrong. We think it is wrong to suck out the brains of children minutes from birth, even if they are inconveniant.

The 9 Baptists in question should go join the Episcopal church. There female TEC priests openly boast of taking minors accross state lines in order to get abortions against parental will.

No need to change parties. Just religions. Because you see being a member of many churches (including Baptist churches) isn't like being a member of a social club. Some churches actually believe in some things and believe they are worth fighting for.
